Ingredients
- 2 granny smith (green) apples peeled and cut in chuck
- a little cup of cinnamon/sugar mixed (more sugar than cinnamon)
- 2- 9inch crusts
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup shortening
- ¾ cup milk
- pinch of salt
Instructions
- Rolling out – wax paper floured, flour rolling pin and sprinkle dough with flour –roll out to size.
- Mix shortening, flour, and salt until well blended. Add milk gradually until dough starts to stick together - test with fingers. “Remember you can always add but not take away.” (Granz)
- Form ball with floured fingers.
- Cut in two.
- Roll out one to size of pan and place on pan; sprinkle with cin/sug on bottom.
- Add apples – sprinkle with cin/sugar, dot with butter.
- Roll out second ball – decorate. Make slits as shown below – one in middle going vertical and three horizontal on the sides of the one in the middle:

- - - Place on top - dampen bottom crust. Lightly press cut off excess dough and fork to seal
- Make sure crust is sealed.
- Make pinwheels with excess crust – slice dough lengthwise, sprinkle with cin/sugar roll and bake.
